October has been a month of celebrations. We celebrated Zoe’s birthday with a mini office party (which, of course, included bubbles!). We also gathered round as a team to have a ‘sofa chat’. This was in aid of World Mental Health Day and meant we could have a break from work to talk about our own mental health and any worries in a supportive group.
As always, we are keeping our eyes on the changes around employment law and want to support our clients the best we can. If you wish to have further support with this, get in touch Here.
The new episode of Anything but Ordinary with Employment and Reputation Lawyer, Sofia Syed will be going live tomorrow Thursday 7th November. Given the current legislation changes this is definitely one that clients and client representatives should listen too.
Sofia is a pragmatic employment and reputation management lawyer, predominantly working with ultra-high net worth clients.
She has extensive experience in advising on all matters relating to personal staffing. Her advice ranges from advising on recruitment and management to termination and post termination of staff engaged in the household or in the family/private office or engaged as part of an entourage. Due to the nature of Sofia’s clients and her practice, reputation management and privacy protection are integral to her work.
Her legal experience includes all aspects of contract drafting, including bespoke contracts of employment and non-disclosure agreements to protect the privacy of her clients as well as contentious work; she defends her clients’ position and reputation if they are faced with employment claims or unreasonable demands from ex-employees. Sofia has dealt with post-employment extortion demands from ex-employees and sought anonymity orders and restricted reporting orders to protect the privacy of her clients and their families. Her work involves negotiating as well as defending in the tribunal.
Sofia brings her previous corporate and commercial expertise into her role as personal adviser, her advice is commercial and practical. Sofia is also often called to advise upon or signpost clients on other personal and business matters. As a trusted adviser to a number of her private clients, Sofia assists with the selection and instruction of other key advisers.

Most recently our MD, Zoe, posted a poll on her LinkedIn page addressing the subject around disclosure of the clients details at the start point of the recruitment process. You can see the post here:
The results were interesting, with a staggering 98 votes in total.
Who voted?
48% voted that the clients details should not be provided before the client has decided to engage with the candidate.
The votes were mostly from senior private household staff or private house recruitment agencies.
30% voted that the clients details should be provided during the initial discussions with the candidate.
The mixed voting here were mostly private household staff and some within hospitality ( not private household).
22% voted it depended. This again was a mix of individuals from household staff to those in other sectors.
We are still interested to hear your thoughts on this which you can send through directly to zoe@shireandwoldstaffing.com.
