We are seeking an experienced Housekeeper to provide Christmas cover for a private family in their Grade I listed country house in West Berkshire.
The successful candidate will maintain exceptional housekeeping standards and help ensure the household runs smoothly throughout the festive period, supporting family life, entertaining and daily routines.
Key duties:
Housekeeping and laundry
- Carry out thorough cleaning, including bathrooms, dusting, polishing and vacuuming.
- Manage laundry, ironing, linens and bed-making to hotel standards.
- Care appropriately for expensive fabrics, delicate furnishings, fixtures and fittings.
- Organise cupboards and wardrobes.
- Pack and unpack suitcases before and after travel.
- Empty bins and take items to the recycling centre as required.
Events and entertaining
- Assist with setting up and clearing down formal and informal festive events.
- Prepare and present tables to a high standard.
- Liaise with and assist the family’s chef.
- Greet visitors and ensure they are well looked after.
Household organisation and errands
- Unpack deliveries and dispose of packaging.
- Shred confidential paperwork with discretion.
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries.
- Carry out household shopping and errands as required.
Light cooking
- Assist with light cooking and food preparation.
Vehicle care
- Clean family vehicles.
- Refuel vehicles using the household’s on-site petrol pump.
Pet care
- Walk and feed the family’s dogs daily.
- Wash the dogs and clean up after them as required.
Candidate requirements:
- Previous housekeeping experience in a private household or luxury hotel.
- Experience handling hotel-standard linens and making beds to an exceptional standard.
- Strong knowledge of caring for expensive fabrics, furnishings, fixtures and fittings.
- Previous experience working in a Grade I listed country house is highly desirable.
- A clean driving licence and confidence driving 4×4 vehicles.
- A discreet, reliable and organised approach, with excellent attention to detail.
- Confidence around dogs and willingness to undertake daily pet care.
- Ability to commute reliably to the property and work the full assignment, including weekends and festive days.
Location: Grade I listed country house, West Berkshire
Dates: 21st December–3rd January, inclusive
Rate: Up to £25 per hour for an exceptional candidate, with premium pay available for festive days

This position requires availability seven days per week throughout the assignment:
