A private household near Guildford is seeking an experienced and personable Part-time Private Chef / Family Cook to support a busy family environment.
This role is focused on wholesome, family-style cooking rather than fine dining, and would suit someone who enjoys preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals and organising food for the week ahead.
The role involves cooking ahead for the week rather than daily service, working closely with the Housekeeper to ensure meals are easily finished and served on non-working days. There is also the opportunity to make use of produce from the kitchen garden, incorporating seasonal ingredients into menus.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals for the family on working days
- Plan simple, seasonal and varied menus suited to family life
- Batch cook meals to cover non-working days
- Provide clear labelling and simple instructions for the housekeeper to heat, assemble and serve meals
- Source and shop for quality ingredients, supplementing with produce from the kitchen garden where appropriate
- Cater for occasional informal entertaining and family suppers
- Ensure the kitchen is kept clean, organised and well-stocked
- Manage basic kitchen organisation, storage and rotation of ingredients
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working in a private household or similar family setting
- A confident, capable cook with a focus on healthy, home-style food
- Experience with batch cooking and meal planning for families
- An appreciation for seasonal cooking and using garden produce
- Comfortable working in a family home environment
- Familiarity with AGA cooking (or willingness to learn)
- Organised, reliable and able to work independently
- Positive, discreet and flexible in approach
- Full UK driving licence and own vehicle essential due to location
- Must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom
Additional Information
- Occasional working days may be required at the family’s London residence
- Flexibility is appreciated for ad hoc requirements or schedule changes
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Please present your day rate
Working Hours: 8:00am – 6:00pm (flexible depending on requirements)
Working Days: 2 days per week (flexible)
