We are seeking an experienced, proactive All-Rounder Housekeeper / Family Assistant to support a warm and welcoming family based near York. This is a varied and rewarding role, split on a weekly rotational basis:
- Week 1 – Housekeeping
- Week 2 – PA / Family Assistant Support
The household consists of a lady principal and her three older teenage children (the eldest currently at university). The family has a dog who may be present during school holidays. This position requires someone organised, intuitive, and adaptable, who can take full ownership of their responsibilities and support the family’s evolving needs. The family is planning a future relocation, with potential moves either within the UK or possibly to Europe, once the children are all at university. While the principal may spend short periods at a property in the Lake district , The role offers strong long-term potential for a candidate open to supporting the family through this transition.
Duties outlined but not limited to :
Week 1 – Housekeeping
- Full cleaning, housekeeping, and general organisation of the home
- Laundry, ironing and wardrobe management
- Changing bed linen and maintaining household inventories
- Light family-style cooking / meal preparation 2–3 times per week (with increased support in school holidays)
- Running errands, shopping, and ad-hoc household tasks
Week 2 – PA / Family Assistant Support
- Managing family emails, correspondence, and household appointments
- Assisting with administrative tasks relating to the principal’s work — e.g. preparing documents for signature, monitoring bills, tracking insurance/certification renewals, and prompting tasks where needed
- Booking medical, personal and school-related appointments
- Diary management and coordination for the family and principal
- Researching and arranging travel options and itineraries
- Overseeing basic household administration and filing
- Liaising with contractors and tradespeople to arrange repairs or maintenance, and ensuring tasks are followed through
- Light household management when the principal is away
- Flexible home-working during most PA weeks (as the principal may not be present)
- Supporting wider family needs as required
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in private households within both housekeeping and PA/family assistant roles
- Highly organised, proactive, and confident working independently
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on their feet
- Warm, discreet, family-focused and reliable
- Comfortable around teenage children
- Driver essential (vehicle provided during working hours)
- Flexible, “can-do” attitude with strong initiative
