A warm, lively family based near Tisbury, is seeking an experienced and proactive Live-out Housekeeper to join their household. This is a long-term position for someone who takes genuine pride in their work and enjoys being part of a warm, informal home.
The household consists of a mother, her adult son and his wife, and their 5-year-old daughter. It is a welcoming, energetic family environment set within a beautiful period home. Two full-time gardeners are employed, so the focus is entirely on the interior and smooth running of the home.
This is a hands-on, all-round housekeeping position suited to someone with a “muck-in” attitude who can take initiative and work independently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full housekeeping duties to a high standard (cleaning, tidying, organisation)
- Laundry management, including linens and correct bed allocation
- Making beds to a high standard, including guest preparation
- Managing the airing cupboard and household systems efficiently
- Keeping kitchens and fridges clean, organised, and regularly cleared out
- Light kitchen assistance (e.g. peeling vegetables – no formal cooking required)
- Providing thoughtful, light support to the mother of the house (e.g. preparing a tray, making drinks, gentle check-ins)
- Communicating effectively with the family and key contacts, including the mother’s PA
- Very occasional ad hoc duties/errands such as post office runs
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the household
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in a private household (essential)
- A proactive, self-starting attitude with strong attention to detail
- Takes pride in their work and maintains high standards
- Warm, discreet, and emotionally intelligent
- Confident communicator who understands household preferences and routines
- Driver essential due to location
- Able to maintain professional boundaries at all times
- DBS check required
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 6-8 hours per day
- Flexibility for occasional weekends/evenings would be advantageous
