An experienced and enthusiastic Housekeeper/Cook is required for a welcoming family home in Winchester. The role focuses on maintaining the household to a high standard, providing family-style meals, and supporting the smooth daily running of the home. The family values a self-starter who takes pride in their work, is organised, and enjoys creating a calm, well-kept environment.
Housekeeping & Organisation:
- Full housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, ironing, and bed making
- Supporting the female principal to ensure school stuff is ready for the next day; week ahead and any extra curricular activities
- Maintain bathrooms, kitchens, and communal areas to a high standard
- Organise wardrobes, cupboards, and storage – ensuring the home remains tidy and decluttered
- Monitor household supplies and restock as needed
- Handle household errands (shopping for groceries and supplies)
Cooking & Meal Preparation:
- Prepare fresh, family-style dinners daily.
- On Fridays, meal prep for the weekend and ensure the fridge/freezer is stocked
- Plan weekly menus and manage shopping lists for ingredients
- Follow family recipes and meal preferences (training provided)
- Maintain kitchen hygiene and organisation
Additional Family Support:
- Assist occasionally with school runs, errands, or supporting the children (e.g. snack prep, supervision if parents are out)
- Communicate effectively with the household team to coordinate household routines
- Two weeks of travel to the Cornwall residence per year ( often split up not all in a two week block). Any need to travel to the property in Cornwall will be agreed in advance
- Occasional request for overnight support ( babysitting) with the children whilst they are in Cornwall
Candidate Profile:
- Experienced housekeeper
- Great family cooking skills (not a professional chef) but has had experience cooking within a similar role before
- Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently
- Flexible and willing to assist where needed
- Friendly, positive, and happy to be part of a busy household team
- Driver with own car essential
- Must have a current DBS and checkable, verifiable references
Please note, whilst it is desirable that the Housekeeper/Cook travels with the to family to Cornwall for up to 2 weeks of the year, there will be no expectation to travel with them when they go out of the Country. Any additional work whilst they are in Cornwall will be paid in addition or time in lieu when they are out of the Country.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday. Days off, Wednesday and Sunday ( however, this can be discussed)
Salary: £40,000- £45,000 gross per annum
