Live-out Governess/Tutor, Dubai

A private family based in Dubai is seeking an experienced, highly qualified Live-out Family Tutor / Governess to support their 11-year-old child, who will be entering Year 6 at an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) school.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring a smooth transition into the IB curriculum, providing academic guidance, fostering independent learning habits, and helping the student build confidence across all areas of study.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engaging educator who can balance academic excellence with a warm, encouraging and supportive approach.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide daily academic support, homework assistance and subject revision in line with the IB MYP curriculum.
  • Develop the student’s academic writing, research and essay-writing skills.
  • Encourage independent learning, organisation and effective study habits.
  • Liaise professionally with the student’s teachers and school where appropriate.
  • Incorporate conversational French into daily interactions and activities to support language development.
  • Accompany the student to extracurricular activities, making productive use of travel time through revision, presentation practice or educational discussion.
  • Support preparation for school projects, presentations and drama activities.
  • Create an engaging and stimulating learning environment tailored to the student’s individual needs.
  • Motivate, inspire and build confidence whilst maintaining clear structure and expectations.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Native-level English with exceptional written and spoken communication skills.
  • Fluent French (minimum C1 level).
  • Proven experience teaching or tutoring within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
  • A strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and IB assessment criteria.
  • A broad academic background, particularly across the humanities and general sciences.
  • The ability to explain complex concepts in an engaging and accessible manner.
  • A genuine passion for education and supporting children’s development.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to adapt to a flexible schedule.
  • A positive, energetic and nurturing personality with the confidence to provide structure without being overly authoritative.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and age-appropriate learning strategies.
