Live-Out Gardener, Moreton -in – Marsh , UK

We are seeking an energetic, proactive garden orientated outdoor allrounder. Ideally someone with broad experience in taking care of outdoor spaces and keeping them well maintained. This role is likely suited to somebody with a keen eye for detail who has either worked within a gardening team or has an interest in taking care of their own garden. It is a hands on role requiring a certain level of initiative and common sense.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and organised with the ability to plan and manage daily, weekly and monthly jobs according to the season.

Some practical experience is advantageous in all areas of looking after a garden, including but not limited to; pruning, deadheading, weeding & turning over beds, feeding/mulching, watering (including not watering), tying up and managing climbers, overwintering requirements.

This is an informal family home with lots of animals (chickens, sheep, pet pigs, ponies & horses) and outdoor space/paddocks/runs that need looking after. A flexible and positive approach to whatever other jobs are required is important, as is being able to cope with unexpected jobs/changes of plan that inevitably occur. Time management is essential, being able to methodically break the jobs down into manageable workloads according to their priority/the forecast/extra help required, etc

Duties outlined not limited to :

  • Helping keep all outdoor spaces well maintained and tidy
  • Maintain a garden, including borders & lawns
  • Carry out regular weeding, pruning, deadheading, mulching; identify which tools are required for ease and effectiveness
  • Split time according to forecast/prioritise task completion whilst managing time effectively
  • Assist with different projects and support the family/children when required
  • Ensure all outdoor areas are kept tidy
  • Work proactively, identifying areas for improvement and taking initiative where appropriate

  • Self assured enough to ask for help/admit needing guidance when necessary
  • Efficient use of time, ability to follow a to do list rather than a want to do list
  • Proactive, organised, unflappable and able to prioritise workloads efficiently
  • Tidy with excellent attention to detail and high standards
  • Flexible attitude and willingness to assist in all areas when required
  • Confident communication skills with a professional yet approachable manner
