Our clients are seeking an experienced Live-In Housekeeper to join their team on a permanent basis at a large and beautiful historic estate in Hertfordshire.
The property is not the family’s full-time residence; they stay on average one week per month, although this can vary depending on their schedule. Previous experience working in a large or historic property is highly desirable.
You will live on-site alongside the House Manager and Butler. It is essential that at least one member of staff is always present at the property, with schedules coordinated between the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning of all areas of the house, ensuring exceptionally high standards throughout
- Specialist care and cleaning of antique furniture, artwork, silverware, and brass using appropriate methods
- Reporting any items requiring attention or repair to the House Manager
- Maintaining all bedrooms to a high standard, including bed making
- Ensuring all private and communal bathrooms are immaculate and hygienic
- Daily monitoring and cleaning of staff areas and facilities
- Laundry duties, including clothing and bed linen
- Maintaining cleaning and laundry equipment; reporting any issues promptly
- Managing cleaning supplies, maintaining stock lists, and advising the House Manager when items need replenishing
- Assisting the House Manager with table service when the family are entertaining
- Liaising with contractors, workmen, and visitors as required
- Running local errands for the House Manager or Principals
- Supporting overall household security and working collaboratively with other staff
- Confident use of security and fire alarm systems, including setting alarms
- Cleaning of external properties, including the Principals’ London flat and the estate chapel, as required
- Coordinating with the House Manager to ensure staff cover during days off and holidays
Candidate Requirements
- Proven housekeeping experience, ideally within a large or historic property
- Highly organised, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a close-knit household team
- Light cooking experience is an advantage
- Driver essential
- Must be flexible with working hours and weekends when required
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Flexibility is essential when the principals are in residence, including occasional weekends and Bank Holidays
- Longer hours may be required during family visits to meet household needs
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 per annum + pension
