Live – in Housekeeper, Burford, UK

A private family based near Burford in the Cotswolds is seeking an experienced and highly professional Formal Housekeeper to join their established household team.

This is a beautifully maintained family home with grown-up children who regularly visit the property, creating a warm yet formal household environment. The successful candidate will work alongside an additional housekeeper, houseman/butler/driver, and gardening team, therefore a positive, team-oriented approach is essential. The family is seeking an individual who takes genuine pride in maintaining exceptional housekeeping standards, enjoys cooking and food preparation, and understands the importance of discretion, flexibility, and professionalism within a private household.

Duties Outlined But not limited to :

• Full housekeeping duties to an exceptionally high standard
• Care and maintenance of fine furnishings, antiques, silver, and crystal
• Daily cleaning, dusting, hoovering, and bathroom/kitchen care
• Bed changing, laundry, ironing, and wardrobe care
• Receiving deliveries and household organisation
• Watering indoor plants and flowers
• Food preparation and light family cooking
• Table setting and serving when entertaining guests
• Running errands and household shopping
• Dog walking and occasional house sitting when the family is away
• Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the household alongside the wider team

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience within a formal private household
• Strong knowledge of traditional housekeeping standards
• Enjoyment and confidence in cooking and food preparation
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Professional, discreet, and service-oriented manner
• Flexible attitude regarding working hours and duties
• Strong team player with a calm and positive approach
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Fluent English essential
• Full UK driving licence required due to rural location
• Non-smoker
• Must have the legal right to work in the UK

Working Schedule

The role requires flexibility with working days and hours. Weekend work will be required, with two days off typically taken during the week. Occasional weekends off may be arranged by mutual agreement depending on the family’s schedule.

Hours: 9 hours per day – 45 hours per week.
