A warm, active family is seeking an experienced and hands-on Live-in Head
Housekeeper to oversee the smooth running and presentation of their country
residence near Newbury, Berkshire.
The successful candidate will join an established household team comprising a
mother’s help, another live-in housekeeper, a Monday-to-Friday daily housekeeper, a
private chef, a maintenance person and gardeners. The current Head Housekeeper is
leaving after three successful years in the role.
This is a varied position requiring someone equally comfortable supporting the family’s
daily routine-such as preparing school clothes and helping the children get ready for
school and delivering polished table settings and attentive service for dinner parties.
Key responsibilities:
• Leading, supporting and coordinating the housekeeping team
• Remaining fully hands-on with all housekeeping duties
• Ensuring consistently high standards of cleanliness, presentation and
organisation
• Delegating duties and helping to plan the team’s daily and weekly workload
• Managing household laundry, wardrobe care and the preparation of school
clothes
• Assisting with the children’s school-morning routine when required
• Maintaining well-organised cupboards, household supplies and inventories
• Preparing guest bedrooms and ensuring visitors are looked after appropriately
• Setting formal and informal tables to an excellent standard
• Providing polished food and beverage service for family meals, dinner parties
and special occasions
• Working closely with the chef and wider estate team
Schedule: Five days per week, including weekend work
Accommodation: Separate two-bedroom cottage within the estate grounds
Driving: Essential
Start date: Ideally 1 September
Salary: £45,000–£48,000 gross per annum
