Live-in Domestic Couple

A private household in Hertfordshire is seeking a reliable, discreet, and proactive Domestic Couple to join their household on a full-time, live-in basis. The roles are suited to a couple with excellent handyman and housekeeping skills, strong attention to detail, and a deep empathy and love for animals, particularly dogs.

This is a long-term opportunity for a couple who take pride in maintaining a beautiful, well-run home and enjoy countryside living.

Key Responsibilities

Housekeeper:

  • Daily and deep cleaning of a contemporary 5-bedroom home
  • Laundry, ironing, and wardrobe care
  • Running errands and shopping as needed
  • Household organisation and occasional supervision of contractors
  • Occasional support with visiting guests

Handyman/Property Maintenance:

  • General home maintenance and repairs
  • Basic electrical, plumbing, and painting tasks
  • Maintenance of outbuildings and local rented properties
  • Vehicle checks and care
  • Liaising with and overseeing contractors and ensuring property standards are maintained

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Evening stabling of 3 small ponies (full groom support in mornings; training will be provided)
  • Care and companionship for 2 large dogs (no walking required, but empathy and comfort with large dogs is essential)
  • Occasional dog-sitting or weekend cover (flexibility appreciated)
  • Overseeing home security and overall presentation of property

Requirements

  • At least one person must hold a valid UK driving licence (ideally both)
  • Must be animal lovers – this is non-negotiable due to the dogs
  • Prior experience in private households or estate work preferred
  • Excellent housekeeping and maintenance skills
  • Flexible, trustworthy, and discreet
  • Must be physically fit and comfortable working in and around a rural estate
  • No own pets or dependent children
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)

Accommodation

  • A private, self-contained property near the main residence is provided for the couple. All bills are paid (utilities, council tax, etc.). A car will be provided for work purposes.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Occasional flexibility required for dog-sitting or property matters
  • Some weekend flexibility may be needed with notice
