Live-in Cook/Chef

Our Clients, in a beautiful North Oxfordshire village, are seeking a professional Cook/Chef to join their fully staffed country home. This is a live-in position, offering accommodation in a two-bedroom cottage.

Due to the rural location, a driving licence and own car are essential. The household is fully staffed, including a long-standing, live-in Housekeeper and Gardeners, all of whom contribute to the smooth and supportive running of the home. The family have several dogs on the property, so a genuine affection for animals is essential. When the family are travelling, part of the role will include helping with dog care.

This is a busy, welcoming household, with grown-up children and grandchildren visiting regularly. The family appreciates a professional who is intuitive, discreet, and able to flex between informal daily cooking and more formal entertaining. The candidate must be professional and discreet in their working practices, while also being positive, approachable, and someone who genuinely enjoys contributing to a happy and harmonious workplace.

Duties outlined but not limited to:

  • Preparing fresh, seasonal, and nutritious meals for the family and guests
  • Cooking for a variety of occasions: from casual lunches and Sunday roasts to elegant dinner parties and barbecues
  • Menu planning and sourcing high-quality ingredients

  • Maintaining a spotless kitchen at all times
  • Occasional batch cooking and children’s meals, considering dietary needs
  • Running errands and managing weekly food shops
  • Baking bread and making of jams and preserves
  • Confident in dinner parties and planning
  • A confident, creative cook with a love for home-style, seasonal British cooking from BBQ to Sunday Lunch
  • Adaptable and calm under pressure, with a professional yet warm presence
  • Highly organised with excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Comfortable preparing food for both small family meals and larger gatherings
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a busy and varied household routine
  • A proactive, helpful team player who works well with other staff
