We are seeking an experienced and professional Head of Service for a UHNW private residence in Burford. This is a hands-on role suited to a service-focused individual with excellent leadership abilities and a thorough understanding of both formal and informal household service.
The Head of Service will be responsible for managing a small team of 3 service staff, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the household’s service function, and ensuring a consistently high standard is maintained throughout. The ideal candidate may come from a private service background or have experience as a stewardess or in luxury hospitality and will demonstrate the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
Duties outlined But not limited to :
- Lead and manage a team of 3 service staff, ensuring smooth and efficient service at all times.
- Create and manage staff rotas and schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage across the week.
- Oversee daily service operations including formal and informal meals.
- Personally prepare and serve breakfast to the principal(s) as required.
- Take full responsibility for the wine cellar/inventory, including restocking, logging, and suggesting pairings.
- Maintain the highest standards of discretion, presentation, and professionalism.
- Be adaptable to the evolving needs of the household and ensure seamless service.
- Liaise closely with other departments and household staff as needed.
- Provide training and support to junior service team members.

- hosting weekend guests or day visitors regularly larger events of up 20-40 people
- Cooking and finishing off food with service team to cover Chefs days off
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar Head of Service, Butler, or Senior Hospitality role within a UHNW environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Highly flexible and discreet, with a natural attention to detail.
- Confident in service etiquette, wine knowledge, and working in a fast-paced, high-standard home.
- Must be willing to commute to the property in Burford.
- Ability to take back hours when appropriate (no overtime provided).
- Comfortable working flexible hours and days off.
Job Title: Head of Service – Private Household
Schedule: 5 days per week (flexibility required) time of in lieu will be given for busier periods
Location: Burford, Oxfordshire
Flexible on hours to support meal service – for example 12 noon – 7pm – Flexibility is required.
Start Date: Beginning of August
Salary: £55,000 per annum
