A fantastic opportunity has become available for a practical, hardworking and enthusiastic Maintenance Person to join a large private estate near Burford, Oxfordshire. Working as part of an established estate team, alongside experienced gardeners and maintenance staff, this is a varied, hands-on position for someone who enjoys practical work and is happy to turn their hand to whatever needs doing.
The family is open to considering candidates at different stages of their career. You may already be a highly skilled maintenance professional with experience across private estates, properties, buildings, carpentry or construction, or you may be at the beginning of your career and looking for an opportunity where you can learn, develop and be trained by an experienced team.
Duties outlined but not limited to:
- Assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the estate and its properties.
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and practical maintenance tasks.
- Undertake general carpentry and joinery work, including repairs to doors, frames, locks, gates, fencing, shelving, cupboards and other timber structures.
- Carry out basic woodwork, fitting, fixing and repair work across the estate.
- Assist with the construction, repair and maintenance of wooden structures, outbuildings, sheds and estate fixtures where appropriate.
- Support with basic plumbing, decorating, painting and general DIY.
- Carry out minor repairs to fixtures, fittings and furniture.
- Measure, cut and fit materials accurately when carrying out maintenance and carpentry tasks.
- Identify maintenance issues and report or resolve them promptly.
- Assist external contractors and tradespeople when required.
- Support the wider estate team with ongoing maintenance, refurbishment and improvement projects.
- Help maintain outdoor areas, buildings, garages, workshops and estate facilities.
- Assist the gardening team when additional support is required.
- Help with moving furniture, deliveries, equipment and other practical estate tasks.
- Maintain tools, machinery and work areas appropriately.
- Be willing to turn your hand to different jobs depending on the needs of the estate.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Practical, hands-on and enjoys problem-solving.
- Confident undertaking general carpentry, woodwork and property repairs.
- Comfortable using a range of hand and power tools safely and competently.
- Able to carry out basic measuring, cutting, fitting and fixing.
- Happy working as part of a larger established estate team.
- Reliable, hardworking and punctual.
- Flexible and willing to help wherever required.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
- Keen to learn new skills and take direction from more experienced team members.
- Able to work independently once trained and confident in their responsibilities.
- Respectful and discreet when working within a private family environment.
- A good team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
Previous experience within carpentry, joinery, construction, property maintenance, buildings, gardening, grounds or another practical trade would be highly advantageous. Formal carpentry qualifications would be welcomed but are not essential if the candidate can demonstrate strong practical skills and experience.
This could equally suit an experienced carpenter or multi-skilled maintenance professional looking to move into a private estate environment, or an enthusiastic candidate with good practical ability who is looking to build a long-term career within estate maintenance.

Previous private estate experience is advantageous but not essential.

Days: Monday to Friday Hours: 9am – 5.30pm
Salary: £40,000 – £48,000, experience dependent
