We’re looking for a kind, proactive and highly adaptable individual to join a small team supporting a busy family household with three children – 5, 7 & 13 – and a menagerie of animals, including horses, ponies, chickens, a goat, pair of pigs and pet sheep. All animals live out, year-round, but you’ll be instrumental in taking charge of their care, plus supporting in the garden during summer months, as you would your own.
They ultimately require somebody who would be able to help with everything; feeding, keeping clean, fed and watered, paddocks tidy, exercising/lunging the horses/ponies, cleaning tack/organising rugs/keeping feed room stocked and the yard clean and uncluttered. This will include helping with the kids riding at home and support at competitions, including pony club and getting ready for lessons.
This is an informal and fun family home. They’re hoping to find someone willing to be highly adaptable, who has initiative, takes pride in their work, has great attention to detail and enjoys being part of somewhat chaotic family life.
What the role involves:
- Feeding chickens and keeping coops clean
- Keeping paddocks clean – poo picking ponies/pigs
- Mucking out stables/filling hay
- Checking and feeding animals – ponies, sheep, pigs, hens
- Keeping outdoor spaces tidy and pressure washed/swept
- Harrowing paddocks and school with buggy
- Keeping hay/tack/rug/feed rooms neat and organised
- Checking all fencing/gates are safe
- Organising farrier/vet/physio/etc
- Tack cleaning
- Assisting with summer gardening jobs; deadheading, weeding, etc
- Sometimes helping with other jobs/errands
What we’re looking for:
- Someone with a real eye for detail and pride in keeping animals well cared for
- Happy keeping a home and outside areas to a high standard.
- A can-do approach while being extremely flexible and adaptable.
- Organised, energetic, and proactive. Comfortable using initiative
- Happy working in a family setting, planning the week and jobs list together.
- Experience working within a family home, happy doing things with the children
- Warm, approachable, and able to fit in naturally with family life.
- Able to drive a 3.5t and trailer
