After School Childcare & Family Support Assistant, Berkshire, UK

A warm and welcoming private family based near Newbury, Berkshire is seeking a proactive, reliable and hands-on Mother’s Help / Family Assistant to support Mum and their three children, aged 7, 5 and 4.

This is a lovely opportunity for someone who enjoys being part of family life and is naturally organised, practical and happy to see what needs doing and get on with it. The family is looking for someone who can use their own initiative and work independently, whilst also working closely alongside Mum to help keep afternoons and family life running smoothly.

This is not necessarily a traditional nanny position. The family would welcome someone with childcare or family support experience who is warm, capable and genuinely enjoys being around children.

Duties outlined not limited to:

• Collecting the children from school and taking them to after-school activities.
• Supporting homework, reading and age-appropriate learning.
• Planning fun, creative and engaging activities at home.
• Helping establish positive routines and encouraging the children’s confidence and independence.
• Preparing simple evening meals and snacks for the children.
• Helping with general organisation relating to the children and family.
• Being proactive and noticing where Mum may need an extra pair of hands.
• Working closely with Mum whilst also being confident taking responsibility and using your own initiative.
• Providing additional practical family support when required.

The Ideal Candidate

The family is looking for someone who is:

• Warm, caring and genuinely enjoys being around children.
• Proactive, practical and has a “get the job done” attitude.
• Confident thinking for themselves rather than always waiting to be given instructions.
• Equally happy working independently or alongside Mum.
• Organised, dependable and flexible.
• Comfortable supporting homework, reading and after-school routines.
• Happy to muck in and help wherever needed within the family home.
• Experienced with children; previous nannying experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
• A confident driver with a minimum of 8 years’ driving experience and a clean driving licence.
• Flexible to provide some additional support during school holidays and occasional weekends.

For the right person, there may also be the opportunity to increase the weekly hours by taking on additional family support duties.

Some flexibility for additional hours during school holidays and occasional weekends would be appreciated.

This would suit a down-to-earth, energetic and capable person who enjoys being part of a busy family environment and takes pride in making life easier for those around them.
