Part-time Housekeeper/Cook

A lovely opportunity has arisen for a kind, experienced, and flexible Housekeeper/Cook to support a single lady principal in her well-kept, 3-bedroom home near Childrey, Wantage. As part of the position, the role includes a charming two-bedroom cottage, located approximately one mile from the main property, offered as accommodation for the successful candidate.

 The principal’s family live nearby and visit regularly, with occasional entertaining in the home. You may be asked to assist with cooking and hosting during these times.

This is a much-loved, long-term role — the current Housekeeper is retiring after 10 years of dedicated service. There is also a long-standing Housekeeper who visits weekly to care for the upstairs areas of the property, providing additional support.

We’re looking for someone who will bring the same care, warmth, and attention to detail to the role. This position would suit someone looking to step back slightly from a full-time career, while still enjoying a rewarding and valued role within a welcoming and well-run home. A lovely 2-bedroom house, within a mile of the principals home, is provided with the role.

Duties outlined but not limited:

• General housekeeping duties including cleaning, tidying
• Laundry, and ironing
• Careful handling of fine fabrics and hand washing delicate items
• Occasional meal preparation and cooking 
•  Support for small dinner parties (up to 8 guests)
• Setting of tables and presentation 
• Errands and general support around the home as required
• Coordination with a weekly assistant who helps with the upstairs areas

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a similar housekeeping and/or cooking role
• Confidence in caring for delicate fabrics and garments
• A competent home cook who enjoys preparing fresh, simple meals
• Trustworthy, discreet, and kind-natured
• Flexible and adaptable, with a positive attitude
• Local candidate preferred, with own transport (due to the rural location)
• Occasional weekend support may be requested, with time off in lieu during the week

Start Date: Flexible

Salary: £18 – £25 per hour (dependent on experience)

Working Hours: Ideally 4–5 mornings per week, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (flexible)
